Children’s Books

We have selected some charming and quality books for children, which have just arrived in our bookshop. Here are just a few to explore:

The Little Prince

If a little fellow comes along, if he laughs, if he has golden hair, and if he never answers questions, then you will know who he is.

“He is the Little Prince, the mysterious, innocent and beautiful boy who appears to a pilot stranded in the desert and makes an extraordinary request. He has captured the hearts of millions of readers around the world since his story first appeared in 1943, written down by an aristocratic French aviator who soon after disappeared during a flight across the sea.

The Little Prince journeys to our planet from his home among the stars, encountering all sorts of benighted grown-ups along the way, and a fox, who teaches him how to see the important things in life. But the Prince has left behind a flower growing on his star, a rose which is his treasure and his burden, and before long he must return to it.”

Aesop’s Fables

“Aesop’s celebrated collection of fables has always been popular with both adults and children. These simple tales embody truths so powerful, the titles of the individual fables – the fox and the grapes, the dog in the manger, the wolf in sheep’s clothing and many others – have entered the languages and idioms of most European tongues.

This edition is beautifully illustrated in black and white by the great Arthur Rackham, and has an introduction by G.K. Chesterton.”

Mary’s little donkey and the escape to Egypt

“A long time ago in the Holy Land lived a lazy little donkey. And then he met gentle, kind Mary, and his world changed forever.

When Mary and Joseph are told they have to go to Bethlehem, who will carry Mary on the long journey? And when Herod’s soldiers come looking for them, who will help them escape across the desert to Egypt?

This is an exciting and beautifully told version of the Christmas story and the early years of little Jesus’s life, from a unique, child-friendly perspective. It is ideal for family reading through the Advent season.”
