We offer a number of study groups that you may join, to learn more about Anthroposophy by studying one of Rudolf Steiner’s books.
Most of the groups are led by Committee Members, and are in person at the Steiner Centre, or on zoom.
If you would like to host a group, let us know and we can list it here to invite others to join you on your studies.
“Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.”– Rudolp Steiner
Leading Thoughts Meetings – Monthly
The Johannesburg branch of the Anthroposophical Society invite you to join our monthly exploration of the Leading Thoughts, written by Rudolf Steiner.
The Leading Thoughts is a “collection of short essays… written near the end of Steiner’s life and in a way summarize, in highly concentrated form, the whole of anthroposophy. Each essay ends with a short summary of its contents, and these are known as the “leading thoughts.” This discussion is ideal for anyone wanting to understand Anthroposophy from an introductory perspective or deepen their understanding thinking.

Knowledge of Higher Worlds – Zoom Study Group Monday nights
Knowledge of Higher Worlds is Rudolf Steiner’s fundamental guide to the path of cognition or knowledge in Anthroposophy. Through this classic, he leads the reader from cultivating reverence and inner tranquillity, to developing the inner life through stages of preparation, illumination and initiation. This can awaken faculties in human consciousness that are sleeping, and when awake can lead to life-giving wisdom. Steiner describes with warmth and clarity, and in detail, the practical exercises for students of this path of initiation to do. These are exercises in the outer and inner observation and development of moral qualities that can be cultivated on one’s path to a conscious experience of supersensible realities.
Michaël Merle leads this study group each Monday night on zoom, exploring a few pages of the book and encouraging discussion around the topic of exploration for that evening.
You are welcome to still join us, even if you have missed a few sessions.
