“Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.”

– Rudolp Steiner

Leading Thoughts Meetings – Monthly

The Johannesburg branch of the Anthroposophical Society invite you to join our monthly exploration of the Leading Thoughts, written by Rudolf Steiner.

The Leading Thoughts is a “collection of short essays… written near the end of Steiner’s life and in a way summarize, in highly concentrated form, the whole of anthroposophy. Each essay ends with a short summary of its contents, and these are known as the “leading thoughts.” This discussion is ideal for anyone wanting to understand Anthroposophy from an introductory perspective or deepen their understanding thinking.

These gatherings will be held once a month on the first Wednesday nights of the month at the Steiner Centre. You can attend anytime, as it suits you, because even if you can only take part occasionally it has an inspiring, light-filling effect on you. Also there are a few copies of the Leading Thoughts in our Library, if you would like to borrow a copy.

RSVP Essential, so please contact Chandre Wertheim Aymes for details via library@anthro-jhb.org.za.

Study of Today’s Needed Consciousness – Monthly

Ian Dunnett (who has been involved in Anthroposophy since attending Emerson College in England in 1972) will facilitate a group to find the Consciousness Needed today. It will be a discussion group, not a lecture, based on how to deal with the evil in our world by developing and using appropriate spiritual forces in our beings, known to us through Anthroposophy.

We are in the years that the forces of darkness hold sway, and are leading the charge using FEAR and GREED as their main weapon.

Please join our WhatsApp group.
We will also meet every second Wednesday night of the month for those who can, at 18h30, and every third Wednesday afternoon of the month, at 15h00, at the Steiner Centre, to have an opportunity to have person to person conversations around this topic. For more details see this page, and read some articles discussed by the group, found here.

RSVP please to Ian Dunnett on 0833777374 and to join the WhatsApp Group.

“Man as a Symphony of the Creative Word” book by Steiner – Weekly Study Group

On Monday mornings a group, led by Helen, meets in our library and are working through “Man as a Symphony of the Creative Word” by Steiner.

“Everything good and everything evil is in some way connected with beings that are to be found somewhere. Everything is part of the great cosmic scheme of things and its connection with other beings can be recognized.”
For the ordinary observer of nature, what flies through the world also has no inner connection – because he sees none. Everything has its own meaning within the world order.

– Steiner

About the book:

In this important series of lectures, given near the end of his life, Rudolf Steiner brought together many aspects of his research into man and nature. The first three lectures show us man’s inner relationship to the ancient and sacred animal representatives – eagle, lion, and bull – and to the forces of the cosmos that form them. This insight is deepened in the second group of lectures by approaching the plant and animal worlds in the context of spiritual evolution. The third group gives a unique and intimate description of the elemental nature spirits – the purely spiritual beings that complement plants and animals – and the cooperation these beings offer to mankind. In the fourth series, man himself is placed in this harmony of nature – in the symphony of the Creative Word.

Anybody who wishes to join, please let Helen know and she will advise further details. For more info contact Helen on 0847611695.
